Mad Rantz

End of an era

Busch Stadium, home to the St. Louis Cardinals, will soon give way to a brand new stadium. This weekend is the last regular season series in the ballpark, and I was lucky enough to attend the game last night with my Dad. Although we know that the Cards will play more games in the park in the post-season, there are a plethora of planned events and interesting attendees that will accompany this last regular season stand. For instance, last night we had not only Mark McGwire attend with his family, but also prominent members of the 1985 World Series Cardinals team, Lou Brock, and Bob Gibson. Very cool, and even better the Cardinals managed to win the game against the Cincinnati Reds with a score of 12-6, including a grand slam for Albert Pujols. Very cool indeed.

I took my camera along for the ride last night, and though we didn’t get into the ballpark soon enough to take some batting practice closeups like I’d hoped, I still managed to take a few not-too-shabby pics. They are building the new Busch Stadium adjacent to, and once the season is over on top of, the location of the current ballpark. It will be fun to see what the new park experience will be like, but the old park will be missed. Maybe 40 years from now I’ll be able to look back on these pics and remember what it was like to attend such a memorable event. Enjoy!
